Ayurveda Body Type (Doshas)

Ayurveda classifies people based on mind and body, which together constitute the Prakriti or the inherent nature. For humans, it is your unique psychological and physical nature. So, what is dosha or the body type? It refers to your physical constitution or ‘biological type’. According to its definition in Sanskrit, whatever doosyati is the dosah! This signifies that whatever contaminates the body constitutes doshas. So, these may refer to disease-causing factors or pathogens that eventually lead to diseases.

Different Ayurvedic body types

There are the 3 three main types of biological energies as per these ancient tenets, namely-

  1. Vata
  2. Pitta
  3. Kapha

Any imbalance related to these three crucial body elements leads to diseases, they are the primary factor or contaminants. Secondary factors are the dhatus or the body tissues, malas or the waste material, and ama or the toxins. These three are the byproducts of and are completely dependent upon dosha imbalances that ultimately lead to various diseases.

Benefits of knowing your Prakriti:

  • Get a better understanding of your body and know its requirements
  • Maintain an optimal health at all times
  • Balance your professional, personal, and family life successfully
